LOCATION

Valdemorillo is a municipality of Madrid (to 38 km from the capital) placed in the hillside of the Guadarrama, to the west of the capital.

 

It borders to the north on the municipality of El Escorial (to 12 km) eastwards with Colmenarejo and Villanueva del Pardillo on the south with Villanueva de la cañada and Quijorna, and on the west with Navalagamella.

 

It relies on approximately six thousand inhabitants that they are named Valdemorillenses. The best accesses to come to the population are for highway.

 

From Madrid we will have to take the N - VI up to turning aside for the M-509 and past Villanueva del Pardillo we will have to take the M-600 up to Valdemorillo. Another solution is to go up to El Escorial and  there taking the M-600 in the opposite direction (up to the km 17). 

 

DESCRIPTION

Valdemorillo is a population who already was inhabited in the Age of Bronze and later stages of the history but it is not until the XVIth century when it receives major summit. The fundamental motive is its proximity to the El Escorial that did that many of the persons related to it were constructing its houses in this locality. Juan II and Enrique IV had palaces of hunt in Valdemorillo since besides it was a zone where the hunt for deer was abounding, jabalíes and bears. Still there stay noble houses that preserve its heraldic shields in the fronts. Its importance was such that Philip IV grants the title of villa to it in 1628.

 

Valdemorillo is a population of Madrid surrounded with forests of oaks and pines and bathed by the waters of the rivers Aulencia, Peartrees and numerous creeks (Nava and Valquemado) that are going to control in Valmayor's nearby marsh.

 

Its climate is highland with agreeable temperatures especially in summer and its economy is based on the culturing of cereals and vineyards, on the ranching and on the quarries and mines of the zone. It is a village with good resources so much to take it as a center of rest or vacations like to locate the first residence.

 

WHAT TO SEE? - WHAT TO DO?

- Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de la Asunción. Built by Bartolomé Elorriaga, disciple of Juan of Blacksmith, in the XVIth century. In this temple of general style herreriano we can estimate other architectural variations as the Mozarabic wall of the north front (XIth century), other Romanesque walls, vaults of  Gothic crucería, altarpieces and baroque door, etc.

- Ermita de Valmayor. One finds approximately 6 km from Valdemorillo, close to Valmayor's reservoir. In it, it devotes itself to the Virgin of the Hope. It is a hermitage that preserves of the XVIth century its head-board and the reed-mace to the feet of the temple.

- Antigua fábrica de loza y ladrillo. Built in the middle of XIXth century it is the current House of Culture and Municipal Library. The important deposits of limestone and mines of kaolin and clay they favored the creation of industries of crockery and porcelain. It was so important that enclosed the king Alfonso XIII did many orders. Stand out the chimneys of the ovens that fulfill the function of rooms of exhibition

- Embalse y presa de cerro Alarcón. Though it places already within Navalagamella it is closely together of Valdemorillo. It possesses recreative zone and in it numerous sports activities can be practised as sailing, piragüism and oar.

- Sports and excursions. Numerous paths and glens allow us the practice of senderism, cicloturism, etc. Royal Segovian La Cañada divides from north to south Valdemorillo's territory. Besides the locality possesses municipal swimming pool and polysport covert.

On the other hand he is near to zones of leisure: ski (to 30 km from Navacerrada), riding, Valmayor's reservoir (aquatic sports, etc.), restaurants, excursions (monastery of The St Lawrence of El Escorial, Avila, Segovia, San Idelfonso's Farm, Salamanca, etc.)
